In spoken Chinese, the equivalent of "I bet," as in "I bet he won't come," is 谅. Using 谅 this way is a little tricky, or sometimes, angry. The closest English equivalent is "I bet." 谅 also means "I think," "I expect," or "I believe." Usually the speaker uses 谅 this way in the first person 我.
